Justice and Peace Group
Aims:
- To achieve peace through justice, guided by scripture, strengthened by prayer.
- To pray for justice and peace e.g. for refugees, immigrants, the homeless and prisoners of conscience.
- To provide information for parishioners about justice and peace issues.
- To enable the Parish to become actively involved in justice and peace activates.
- To raise awareness and to campaign for justice by supporting larger bodies e.g. Justice and Peace Scotland, Trade Justice Movement, SCIAF and Jubilee Scotland
- To help ease suffering small and practical ways e.g. by fundraising, Fresh Start collections, Fair Trade Stall and Greeting Card Campaigns.
- To remain aware of J&P issues by having representation at relevant events e.g. Diocesan J&P days and SCIAF workshops.
Meetings:
Every second month on a Wednesday at 7pm in the Sister’ House.
New members are always welcome.
WHAT's HAPPENING
PRISONER OF CONSCIENCE : Pray for Fr Nguyen Van Ly, Vietnamese Catholic priest imprisoned on 30 March 2007 for 8 years. His crime was to help set up an internet petition calling for democratic chane in Vietnam. This is the fourth tiume in two decades that he has been a prisoner of conscience.
